Cuba: A Space for Recreation

The international tourist industry, one of the world's fastest-growing economic sectors, has in Cuba an ideal place to promote recreation based on the country's diversity.

The Caribbean island has a privileged location and offers dozens of kilometers of excellent beaches that attract thousands of foreign tourists every year.

Cuba also offers more than 70,000 square kilometers of insular platform and some 5,000 kilometers of coasts, which are bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

Nearly 6,500 varieties of fish, crustaceans, sponges and mollusks, and an 850-kilometer coral reef in perfect state of preservation turn the island into one of the best-preserved underwater ecosystems in the Caribbean region.

The island nation is also an excellent destination for nature lovers, who can enjoy a wide range of options while spending their vacations in Cuba.

In that regard, Cuba's fauna consists of 16,500 species, including some zoological groups whose endemism exceeds 90 percent.

Santa Lucia. Mayanabo
Santa Lucía Beach.
Tocororo. National bird.

In addition, the archipelago's geographic location turns Cuba into a corridor for migratory birds that travel long distances from North America to South America and vice versa.

Many varieties of birds migrate to Cuba in winter and nest near rivers, lakes and dams, as well as on the archipelago's keys, where visitors can watch the birds.

Natural and biosphere reserves, natural landscapes, national parks and protected areas make up a broad network of tourist offers, marked by their wealth, excellent preservation and unique characteristics that make them stand out in the region.

Cuba complements the breathtaking beauty of its coast and exuberant nature with its culture and traditions, which are essential components of the country's tourist product.

Cities with a well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture, hotels linked to plastic arts, patrimonial sites and a busy schedule of celebrations and festivities make up Cuba's tourist offer.

One of Cuba's major destinations is Havana, which has a complex of fortresses made up of nine large castles that among the most relevant constructions of its kind in the Spanish-speaking Americas.

Cuba has about 120 art galleries, antique shops and art exhibition halls, in addition to nearly 260 museums and more than 80 theaters, which are excellent options for those looking for more than beach and sun in the Caribbean Island.
