Complementary Values for Tourism

The Cuban archipelago, a dynamic element in the international tourist environment, adds values that point to the diversification of the sector's offers.

Water parks, marinas and nature trails go hand in hand in a scenario where the practice of golf and the creation of spaces for that activity also play a leading role.

In this direction, the beginning of the works for the largest real estate tourist complex associated with golf in Latin America stands out, with a total area of 3,700 hectares in the western province of Pinar del Río.

Under the name of Punta Colorada Golf and Marina Cuba, it will have two 18-hole golf courses, one of which will have the singularity of being the only one in the world with a hole in the sea.

In addition, 1,250 rooms in three hotels, more than 1,700 units among villas, apartments and bungalows, together with a marina with capacity for 300 berths, will be built.

Another project involves the British group Esencia Hotels and Resorts, which will allocate about 350 million dollars to the construction of La Carbonera Club in the western province of Matanzas.

The complex will have an 18-hole golf course, a luxury hotel, a villa with about 650 apartments and residences, a shopping center and a club.

In addition, a second joint venture for the development of real estate facilities linked to golf courses includes the Cuban group Palmares and the Chinese firm Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited.

As a novelty, Cuba grants surface rights for 99 years or perpetuity, and the initial validity of the company to be formed will be determined in correspondence with the period of recovery of the investment, the magnitude of the resources mobilized and the characteristics of the project.

On the other hand, the Spanish company Urbas Grupo Financiero will participate in the development of a large tourism and real estate project in Cuba, which includes the construction of luxury hotels and golf courses, among other facilities, in the city of Cienfuegos.

In particular, it involves the construction of a sports marina, six golf courses, six five-star hotels, three aparthotels, 1,500 villas and 3,000 apartments.

According to specialists, Cuba plans to have 27 golf courses, whose practice and associated tourist attractions annually move about 40 million people around the world.

In order to guarantee the sustained development of the leisure industry, Cuba has 67,000 hotel rooms and plans to add more capacities in the long term to have some 100,000 rooms by 2030.

by that time, the creation of 224 new facilities and 32 enlargement projects are expected, in addition to 23 nautical bases and marinas and 47 centers for recreation and adventures.

As an additional element and to support this strategy, the sector reports 87 management contracts and 19 foreign hotel chains, as well as 27 joint ventures, which operate in that industry.

In the future, investments will be aimed at achieving sustainable tourism, with indications to avoid the construction of establishments on the beachfront and to prevent adverse environmental impacts in the dunes.
