Holguín's Tourist Attractions Highlighted
Monday, September 12, 2005

Havana.- Eastern Holguín province offers a wide range of tourist options that are highly demanded by thousands of foreign vacationers who visit the region every year.

According to experts, one of those options is the Chorro de Maíta Park, which is seven kilometers from Guardalavaca Beach and holds beautiful landscapes and major archeological sites where artifacts from agri-pottery aboriginal groups or Tainos have been found.

The park's main attraction is a 2,000-square-meter sepulchral area where 56 of 108 burials found during archeological excavations are located.

During the excavations, archeologists also found a gold bird-head idol that represents God Inriri Cahababayael, which was used by the Cuban aborigines to invoke nature.

Holguín also holds the Bahía de Naranjo Natural Park, which covers an area of 4.2 square kilometers and where Cayo Naranjo, an aquarium-dolphinarium, is located. Visitors access the key by boat from the nearby coast.

A group of fish tanks allow visitors to watch a wide range of marine species and even enjoying a refreshing swim with trained dolphins and sea lions.
