Cultural Activities in Cuba's Mountains
Monday, September 12, 2005

Havana.- Cuban culture gains ground in mountainous areas of the country, where several artistic expressions have been taken to away-from-it-all places.

In Cuba's westernmost province, Pinar del Río, this cultural strategy is carried out by 55 art instructors and 72 socio-cultural promoters.

That specialized force runs 11 workshops on improvised poetry, 163 on artistic creation and a similar number on artistic appreciation. The two latter group more than 4,000 participants.

During the first seven months of 2005, 136 cultural activities, including mobile museums and 2,000 concerts, were held in the province's mountains.

Other activities were 496 dance shows, 379 plays and 40 art exhibitions by local artists.

The project also included 489 film exhibitions and 278 video presentations at television halls.
