Desalination Plants for the Cuban Economy |
|
|
Monday, April 23, 2012
Havana.- Cuba will include, this year, the services of three new desalination plants supplied by the Italian company Chematek S.p.A.
Works are concentrated on the installation of the facilities at the thermoelectric plants of Havana, Nuevitas and Enervas in Boca de Jaruco.
According to specialists, the plants turn seawater; as well as the water from rivers and reservoirs into an ultra-pure water to feed high pressure boilers.
The equipment functioning is based on reverse osmosis with a refining process by means of ionic exchange resins that, among other advantages, are capable of holding viruses and bacteria.
The company Cubahidráulica is evaluating the possibility of extending this technology to remote communities thus ensuring potable water supply to the population in those areas.
