Havana.- Minimal-access surgery is increasing in different health specialties in Cuba, as part of the efforts to minimize surgery costs.
In the case of Ciego de Avila, since 2002 to the present date, about 200 patients have benefitted from arthroscopy, a laparoscopic procedure used in orthopedics.
Most of minimal-access surgeries are performed to treat health conditions in shoulders and knees, as well as in the ankle joints.
In general, these procedures provide a shorter hospital stay and recovery period.
Minimal-access procedures are also used in surgeries of different human organs, supported by the necessary technology.
