Remarkable Performance by Cuban Swimmer at Italian Tournament |
|
|
Monday, June 25, 2012
Havana.- The Cuban swimmer Hanser García, already qualified for the Olympic Games in London, won a silver medal at the tournament Sette Colinas Trophy in Rome, Italy.
García clocked a time of 49.10 seconds in the 100-meter front crawl competition, just a hundredth behind the gold medal winner, Sebastian Verschuren (49.09) from Netherlands.
This is the 5th medal the Cuban swimmer has won during his competition tour in Europe, adding to a balance of one gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze one; the first two at the Mare Nostrum tournament.
The European tour contributes to García’s preparation for the Olympic Games where the best swimmers in the world will compete.
Cuba is also seeking two more Olympic spots through Pedro Medel and Alex Hernández, who must meet the minimal qualifying times for the event.
