Havana.- Cuba won an Olympic medal in weightlifting thanks to Iván Cámbar who won a bronze medal in the 77-kilogram division.
With this great achievement, the Cuban weightlifter marked the return of Cuba to the victory podium, after 16 years.
Cámbar, who is 28 years old and has been in the national team for 10 years; scored a total of 349 kilograms: 155 kilograms in snatch; and 194 kilograms in clean and jerk.
Cuba had not won a medal in weightlifting since Atlanta-1996 when Pablo Lara (76 kilograms) was the gold medal winner.
The Chinese athlete Xiaojun Lu won the gold medal (175-204) with a record in snatch and in the total score while Haojie Lu, also from China, was runner-up.
