Regenerative Medicine in Villa Clara |

Havana.- The province of Villa Clara, in the central area of Cuba, has applied several treatments related to the so-called regenerative medicine since 2007.
During the abovementioned time lapse, more than 150 people have benefited from the treatment with stem cells in cases of angiopathy and orthopedic problems.
Most of the patients suffered from chronic arterial failure and some of them were at risk of amputation; a procedure which was not necessary thanks to the implant of stem cells.
This type of cell is capable of renewing itself, thus producing new ones by a process called differentiation which allows the use of these cells to regenerate damaged tissues and to stimulate the growth of blood vessels.
In general, stem cells are obtained from the peripheral blood or the bone marrow, and they can be used in patients suffering from arteriosclerosis of the lower limbs and orthopedic problems, among other diseases.
