Track and Field Experts Evaluate Future of Cuban Sprinters

Havana.- Cuba is aiming at recuperating positions in international sprint events supported by young promising athletes who are showing positive results.

Specialists reminded the 38 seconds scored by the Cuban team in the 4X100 relay race (bronze medal) and the 2:59.51 minutes clocked in the 4X400 relay race (silver medal) at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.

Currently, the main objective is the Relay World Championship in Bahamas where 762 sprinters from 48 countries (99 men´s and 64 women´s teams) will take part.

The Cuban sprinter Arialis Gandulla stands out with times of 11.32 seconds in the 100-meter race and 23.19 in 200 meters, a distance in which Gandulla has the eighth position in the junior world-ranking list.

In addition, Reynier Mena, who is only 16 years old, scored 10.37 seconds in the 100-meter race at the world championship and 20.79 seconds in 200 meters.
