Recuperation of Historic Sites in Cienfuegos
Monday, April 14, 2014

Havana.- The city of Cienfuegos, capital of the province by the same name, boosts actions to restore emblematic buildings which represent Cuba´s historic and cultural values.

Specialists from the Office of the City´s Historian (OCC, in Spanish) stated that the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (1869) and the Palacio del Valle, built in the early 20th century, are included among the buildings to be restored.

In addition, they reminded that the city´s main square is the center of an area covering 70 blocks of the city´s historic heart which was given the status of World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The restoration process also includes the Aduana Park where the Santa Isabel Street comes out, a pedestrian street which currently functions as a promotional area of local craftwork.

The trade school, the Alhambra Patio, the Prado Promenade, several wooden houses in La Punta (National Monument), the Casa de los Leones, and the Perla del Mar Inn are also comprised in the restoration actions.
