Havana.- The Cuban National Library, the main institution of its kind in the island, stands out for the actions to preserve the documentary and bibliographic heritage in the island.
In this sense, the main objective is the modernization and placing of information which exists in other media in order to facilitate access to it.
The actions include the National Library Catalogue which is composed of nearly six million texts which are being currently digitalized.
Specialists stated that priority has been given to the national collection, rare and valuable documents and, before the year´s end the catalogue of specialized halls must be finished.
The abovementioned initiatives are supported by the Cuban Institute of History, the Literature and Linguistics Institute, the National Archive, Casa de las Americas and the Council of State's Office of Historic Affairs.
