Eighteen Cubans at World Junior Athletics Championship
Monday, July 21, 2014

Havana.- Cuba will be represented by 18 competitors at the 15th World Junior Athletics Championship in Eugene, the United States.

Sports officials pointed out that it is Cuba's largest delegation to an event of this kind over the past 28 years.

The Cuban delegation is headed by triple jumper Lázaro Martínez (17.24 meters, the world's best jump this year in that category).

Other delegation members are Róger Iribarne (110-meter hurdles) and Sailis Diago (800 meters), who have great possibilities to win medals in the event.

The Cuban delegation also includes Liadagmis Povea and Andy Díaz (triple jump), José Luis Despaigne (long jump), Diagmellis Dutil (high jump), Saili Viar (shot-put) and Eliannis Despaigne (hammer).

At the 14th World Junior Athletics Championship, held in Barcelona in 2012, Cuba finished fourth with four gold medals and one bronze medal.
