Monday, August 18, 2014

Havana.- The Cuban men's team finished seventh at the World Chess Olympiad held in Norway.

The Cuban team defeated the United Kingdom (2.2-1.5) on the last day of competitions and scored 16 points, being that the best result for the Americas.

Cuba had given similar performances in Novi Sad-1990 and Calviá-2004, represented in the latter by a team that included Leinier Domínguez (2,760 points of Elo), Lázaro Bruzón (2,664) and Yuniesky Quesada (2,649).

Cuba won seven series, including those against India and Israel, tied two and lost to Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.

The women's team finished 30th with 13 points, after winning six series, losing four and tying one.
