Cuba Works to Reduce Smoking
Monday, August 25, 2014

Havana.- Cuba's healthcare system is working to reduce smoking, considering that it is a high risk to people.

Smoking is a major health problem, as statistics show that 24 percent of Cubans aged 15 years or more are active smokers, while 50 percent are actively exposed to tobacco smoke.

In addition, experts warned that smoking is the cause of more than 80 percent of deaths by lung cancer in Cuba.

Smoking also causes cancer in the pharynx, larynx, esophagus, bladder, urinary tract, gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys, stomach, liver and cervix.

Therefore, the prevalence of smoking is high and the objective is to reduce that incidence to improve people's quality of life.
