Cuba Reports Increase in Agricultural Production
Monday, September 1, 2014

Havana.- Cuba's agricultural production increased 17.6 percent in the first semester of 2014 compared to the same period last year.

According to the National Statistics and Information Office (ONEI), that period coincides with the largest harvests of vegetables.

The ONEI noted that from January to June, non-sugarcane agriculture grew 25.6 percent, and livestock grew 8.4 percent.

During the first semester, 1,930,700 tons of tubers and vegetables were cropped, but they are still insufficient to meet the domestic demand.

Cuba's productive strategy prioritizes the recovery of the agricultural sector to meet the demand from the domestic market.
