Monday, September 15, 2014

Havana.- The Cuban freestyle wrestling team finished fifth by countries in the World Championship of that sport, held in Tashkent

The Cuban wrestlers won three medals (one silver and two bronze medals) and scored 31 points. They were preceded by Russia (62 points), Iran (45), Turkey (41) and Azerbaijan (36).

The Cuban medalists were Reneris Salas (silver in the 86-kg division), and Yowlys Bonne (61) and Liván López (74), who won the bronze medals. Javier Cortina (97) finished fifth.

The Cuban wrestlers were the only Ibero-American competitors who won medals in the World Championship, which was dominated by the Europeans.

Cuba won the right to compete in the World Cup, scheduled for April 11-12, 2015, in Los Angeles, the United States, in which the world's top eight teams will participate.
