Museum in Santiago de Cuba Undergoes Restoration Works
Monday, October 20, 2014

Havana.- The 29 de Abril (April 29) Museum, in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, is undergoing restoration works in all its facilities.

Museum authorities recalled that the wooden building in San Luis municipality housed the garrison of the Spanish cavalry in the19th century.

In addition to its old age, plagues and humidity damaged the building's structure, thus the need to take immediate actions to preserve the museum, from the floor to the French tiles on the roof.

The building also held the remains of Cuban National Hero José Martí on May 26, 1895, while they were taken to the provincial capital.

At present, a new design is being made to show the origins and development of the town from the aboriginal period to today's achievements.
