Cuban Banking System to Support Private Sector
Monday, December 15, 2014

Havana.- Cuba's financial system is weighing possible actions to increase its support for the private sector in order to guarantee operations by non-state stakeholders.

In that context, Banco Popular de Ahorro is studying the creation of business managers who will accompany the self-employed workers.

Those experts will be in charge of explaining to self-employed workers the advantages of being advised by the bank, as well as the importance of credits.

The objective is to provide financial services at their workplaces, so that they do not have to go to commercial offices and can devote to working exclusively.

So far, nearly 470 self-employed workers have applied for bank credits, in contrast to 500,000 people who work in the non-state sector nationwide.
