Cuba's Medical Cooperation Worldwide Highlighted
Monday, December 15, 2014

Havana.- Cuba's international cooperation in the healthcare sector has accumulated an experience of more than five decades, with actions that have benefited 120 countries.

According to sources from the sector, the first missions began in the 1960s, when Cuban medical professionals help Chile after an earthquake.

At present, more than 50,000 Cuban medical experts, including 25,000 doctors, are rendering their services in 65 countries.

In addition, some 15,000 youths from several countries are studying medicine at the Latin American Medical School (ELAM) in Cuba.

Medical centers nationwide have contributed to training 130,000 doctors since 1959 to meet the country's demand.
