Program to Treat Ataxia Patients Evaluated
Monday, March 30, 2015

Havana.- Cuban experts are carrying out a clinical trial to improve the therapeutic options to treat patients suffering from spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2).

The evaluations include the neuro-protective effect of human recombinant erythropoietin (Neuro-EPO), which is produced at the Molecular Immunology Center.

The medicine is a hormone produced naturally by the body and has a neuro-protective function.

Therefore, it is essential in the treatment of neuro-inflammatory and neuro-degenerative diseases, as well as in the treatment of ischemic damage and brain traumas.

More than 30 patients were chosen for the clinical trial. They underwent clinical, neuro-physiological and hemo-chemical tests.
