Action in Favor of Havana's Heritage
Monday, April 20, 2015

Havana.- The National Commission of Monuments declared the Bay of Havana and its surrounding areas as a protected zone.

The measures, according to experts, aims to preserve the cultural and historic heritage of that site, so special permits will be needed to undertake construction works in that zone.

The resolution has the objective of protecting the environment surrounding the Bay of Havana, where people with their own identity settle down in Guanabacoa, Regla and Casa Blanca.

In addition, it will preserve emblematic places like Havana's Shipyards, the Royal Tobacco Factory and Almacenes del Quinto in Regla, among other sites.

Founded in 1519, the Village of San Cristóbal de La Habana was protected by one of the largest bays in Latin America and the world, with a strategic location from the geographic and economic viewpoints.
