Cuba Fosters Rehabilitation of People with Disability
Monday, July 6, 2015

Havana.- There is a specialized institution in the eastern Cuban province of Granma where deaf-blind people are rehabilitated.

The center, the first of its kind in Latin America, is located in Río Cauto municipality and treats the largest number of deaf-blind people in the country.

According to experts, the institution's work favors the social inclusion of people who lack two vital senses, as they learn to orient themselves and do home chores.

The center will treat people from eastern Cuba through a program that consists of six educational stages and two weekly sessions.

The experts recalled that studies have detected the presence of the Usher and Norris syndromes, which are not very common and are related to the genetic causes of deaf-blindness and other health problems.
