Ciego de Avila Reports Decrease in Infant Mortality Rate
Monday, July 27, 2015

Havana.- The healthcare system in the eastern Cuban province of Ciego de Avila reported an infant mortality rate of 4.0 deaths per every 1,000 live births in the first semester of 2015, lower than in the same period last year.

In that regard, the Mother-Child program was improved at all levels as a result of actions to further control risk factors, including genetic factors.

In addition, the mothers-to-be were treated since the beginning of pregnancy, and complementary tests were made on time to control the evolution of pregnant women.

Experts also noted the high quality of services at intensive care and neonatology wards in the province.

This good work has contributed to a reduction in the number of deaths among preschool- and school-age children, whose rate is 4.9 and 0.8, respectively.
