Increased Shrimp Production in Eastern Cuba
Monday, August 31, 2015

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Holguín is promoting artificial shrimp raising to meet the growing demand from the domestic and international markets.

The Holguín-based Unidad Empresarial de Base de Guajaca, has produced nearly 200 tons of shrimps in the first cycle of the year.

The high quality of shrimps for export under the brands Batabanó and Conga was above expectations, with 83 percent of excellent shrimps and an average weight of 13 grams per specimen.

The Guajaca company has a production plan this year of 398 tons of shrimps that it is expected to be fulfilled in October after the second stage of capture.

The company has a staff of 135 workers who handle 71 hectares of bodies of water in 48 tanks.
