Advanced Technology to Support Cuban Health

Havana.- The use of advanced technology for the diagnosis of various diseases in the island favors prevention work in the Cuban health system.

In that effort stands out the Ultra Micro Analytic System (SUMA), which allowed early detection and prevent severe mental retardation to more than 8,000 Cuban and foreign children in 28 years.

To achieve these numbers the five Newborn Screening tests that are performed on all babies in the Caribbean nation in the first days after birth, with a blood sample applied in the heel.

Such equipment, developed at the Immunoassay Center, joins eight rapid detection methods of HIV, syphilis, dengue NC-1, hepatitis B and C.

The research by SUMA allows early detection of diseases and increases the therapeutic possibilities, among other advantages, including cost and sustainability.
