Cuba with no Cases of Indigenous Malaria Transmission
Monday, May 2, 2016

Havana.- Cuba's health system reported the nine-year absence of cases of malaria or malaria transmission, transmitted by the mosquito Anopheles albimanus.

According to experts, on the island a monitoring program on travelers who enter the country is applied to detect in a timely manner people with the condition.

In addition, control of vector Anopheles albimanus is covered by the National Monitoring and Control Program force in the country.

In Cuba the risk of introduction due to imported cases of African countries and Latin America are real, hence the importance of maintaining control mechanisms.

There is currently collaboration in nations of Africa where Cuban doctors try to reduce the incidence of the disease that also affects Asian and American continents.
