Incentives in Cuban Production of Cocoa
Monday, June 20, 2016

Havana.- Cuban cocoa farmers received the incentive of better purchase prices, coupled with the timely delivery of needed inputs.

In the province of Guantanamo, the easternmost island, it has already seen an increase in the collection of that area, including in the country's exports.

From January to May they were collected in Baracoa 1,300 tons of cocoa, higher volume than the previous record for that stage, which was 227 tons in 2004.

These figures ensure the compliance of the exports plan and production of the plant dedicated to make chocolate bars and other assorted goods.

The sector also benefited from favorable weather in the last months of 2015, without cold temperatures, which stimulated flowering and fruit growth.
