Cuban Chess Player Prepares for Olympics
Monday, June 27, 2016

Havana.- Cuban Grand Master Oleyni Linares, with 22 years dedicated to the science game, concentrates efforts on the preparation for the upcoming Olympics in Baku.

During his career he obtained the silver medal in Dresden 2008, hence the interest in repeating a medal at this level in the next match.

In addition, he accumulates three assists to events of this kind (2008, 2010 and 2012) and holds balance of 17 wins, seven ties and just five defeats in 29 games for 70.7 percent effectiveness.

Linares said the squad of the island to the said event will feature experienced players, besides working as a team to achieve the expected result.

Personally, he said he hoped to reach an Elo score of 2,400 points and even work for 2,500 units, which requires constant study of chess.
