Extended Use of New Cuban Drug

Havana.- Health services in the province of Holguin, in eastern Cuba, applied this year Heberprot-P drug to about 500 patients in the territory.

The drug, developed at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, is used for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and reduce the risk of amputation.

According to experts, the current 2016 program provides for the inclusion of attention to 1,300 others.

The medication contains as active ingredient the human epidermal growth factor recombinant and is applied by a nurse and a podiatrist under the advice of a specialist in the area of Angiology.

It is also the only replacement therapy able to achieve granulation and healing of diabetic foot ulcers and since its implementation in 2007 has allowed the attention of 240,000 patients in 24 countries.
