Havana.- General Teaching Hospital Ernesto Guevara of Las Tunas, in the east of the island, counts in 2016 with 228 training residents, while 86 others began studies this year.

At the conclusion of the 2015-2016 course as part of so-called advancement plan, 26 professionals graduated in anesthesia, general surgery, gynecological-obstetrics, cardiology, dermatology and endocrinology, among others.

Among the specialties that currently need the most training are internal medicine, gynecology, dermatology, cardiology, endocrine, nephrology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and urology.

Also in the territory several are pursuing medical studies at the Latin American School of Medicine, known by its acronym ELAM, training that started last year as a form of self-financing.

In the medical center 286 teachers are involved in the training of professionals who must take care and treatment to an increasingly aging population.
