Cuba Evaluates Construction of Desalination Plants
Monday, September 26, 2016

Havana.- Cuba has plans to build at least five desalination plants by 2017, in order to ensure water supply to the population.

The first of these should start operating by the end of the current year in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, capable of delivering up to 50 liters per second.

There are also projects for four other facilities in the north Keys of Villa Clara and Ciego de Avila, Cayo Largo del Sur and Isla de la Juventud, which will benefit tourism development in these areas.

The initiative is part of a program to ensure water supply in areas with difficult access through conductive pipes.

Experts in water resources forward new plants are considered in different places of the Cuban geography, taking into account the demand.
