Stained-Glass Recovered in Central Cuba´s Cathedral
Monday, February 20, 2017

Havana.- The Purísima Concepción Cathedral in Cienfuegos, attached to the city´s historical center, benefited from actions that allowed the recovery of several of its elements.

In that direction, the work of an enterprise from Spanish city Burgos endorsed the restoration of nine of the Parisian stained-glass windows of the mentioned institution.

Finished by 1869, since 1903 the Purísima Concepción church was granted the cathedral rank and became the Holy See of the Cienfuegos and Trinidad diocese.

The facility treasures a set of 15 stained-glass windows manufactured in Paris and premiered in December 8, 1871, which were made by Swiss-French maestro Jean Jules Gaspard Gsell (1814-1904).

They represent the twelve Christian apostles, as well as Jesus´ Sacred Heart and two oculus (small circular windows) inspired by other symbols of the catholic church.
