Havana.- The Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, in this capital, will carry out an extensive program of activities for the 180th anniversary of its founding.
The agenda includes presentations of the National Ballet of Cuba, directed by the prima ballerina Alicia Alonso, as well as the company Acosta Danza with a premiere of the American choreographer Justin Peck.
The installation reopened its doors in early 2016 following a comprehensive rehabilitation process, which included façades, lobbies, boxes, deck and floor.
The theater was also equipped with new furniture, curtains, air conditioning system, acoustics, stage mechanics, rehearsal rooms for dancers and orchestra, a recording studio and more than 20 dressing rooms and bathrooms.
The stage of the building welcomed actresses of the likes of Sarah Bernhardt, Eleonora Duse, singers Enrico Caruso and Pablo Casals, dancers Fanny Elssler and Anna Pavlova.
