Tobacco Harvest Ready in Western Cuba

Havana.- The province of Pinar del Rio, the westernmost of the island, is preparing for the upcoming tobacco harvest with plans to plant some 19,000 hectares.

The producers advance actions directed to the improvement of the soils with the use of organic matter, calcium carbonate and other nutrients.

At present, the areas destined to the seedlings that will guarantee the seedlings necessary for the future plantings are located and the hiring of the producers takes place.

For the stage, the biggest producer of the leaf in the country will increase the spaces dedicated to the blond tobacco with which it is expected to cover 400 hectares.

They also work on the harvesting of the leaf in the fields, where there are conditions to reach a volume close to 19,000 tons of tobacco.
