Voluntary Donation of Blood Promoted in Cuba
Monday, April 17, 2017

Havana.- The voluntary donation of blood is part of the actions promoted by the Cuban health system, with a view to helping save human lives.

In the case of the province of Ciego de Avila, 3,501 voluntary donations were made in the first quarter of 2017, with the largest contribution in the municipalities of Chambas, Morón and Ciego de Ávila.

The vital fluid is sent to the health care centers throughout the territory, with emphasis to the services of Emergency, Surgery, Hematology, Oncology and Nephrology.

In addition, 139 people currently donate plasmapheresis, a procedure that separates the different blood cells and collects the plasma.

Experts recalled that in each regular donation components such as red blood cells, platelets, fresh frozen plasma and precipitated kidneys are separated.
