Rehabilitated Old Spaces of Santo Domingo
Monday, April 24, 2017

Santo Domingo.- The capital of the Dominican Republic is taking steps to renovate the streets and facades of its older buildings, as part of its efforts to bring tourism attractions.

The project will have a financing of 120 million dollars, provided by the Inter-American Development Bank and aims to improve the historic center.

Of that amount, some 30 million were invested, which allowed the restoration of 200 old facades, the painting of 800 houses and the installation of new potable water and public lighting systems.

The figures show that of the five million tourists that the country receives every year, only 14 percent visit the capital and only three percent choose it to spend the night.

Meanwhile, since 2012 the private sector has activated some 300 businesses, including restaurants, museums, condominiums, hostels and seven new boutique hotels.
