Cuban Sports Authorities Oppose European Proposal
Monday, May 22, 2017

Havana.- The Cuban Olympic Committee expressed its stance on the proposal by the European Athletics Federation to annul of world records set before 2005.

In that regard, the Cuban institution noted that a measure of that kind must be founded on scientific arguments, because only the demonstration of an infraction will support the fairness of such decision.

Therefore, annulling those records on the basis of suspicions is inadmissible, because the record holders are not responsible that the samples taken at the time were not preserved long enough to be retested now.

Cuba feels that it has the right to demand a vision of the issue that does not condemn without evidence, as if all those involved were criminals.

Cuba does not support the proposal, because it considers that it is an attack on the traditional respect for the dignity of men and women who could never be linked to bad practices.
