Cuban Agriculture Promotes Rice Production
Monday, May 22, 2017

Havana.- Cuba's agricultural sector is promoting rice production to meet the domestic demand for that food.

The objective is to achieve self-sufficiency despite the adverse effects of the draught that has affected the country over the past few years.

Therefore, water must be managed rationally and efficiently, taking into consideration the requirements of that crop.

Cuban authorities plan to develop rice crops on both banks of the Cauto River, in the eastern part of the country, an initiative that has spread to Camagüey, Matanzas, Havana, Pinar del Río and Sur del Jíbaro.

The Sancti Spiritus-based Empresa Agroindustrial de Granos Sur del Jíbaro is considered Cuba's second largest rice producer.
