Cuban Health Authorities Prepare Nationwide Survey
Monday, May 22, 2017

Havana.- Cuban health authorities are preparing a nationwide survey to learn about the situation of non-transmissible chronic diseases in the country.

The study, which is being prepared by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) and the National Statistics and Information Office (ONAI), will cover people after six years of age and will focus on high blood pressure (hypertension), among other topics.

It is worth noting that high blood pressure is one of the main risk factors of cardiovascular diseases, which, along with cerebral-vascular problems, kills more than 35,000 people in the country.

In Cuba, population aging is the main risk factor, as 19.8 percent of people are over 60 years of age.
