European Commission Strengthens Air Safety |
|
|
Monday, May 22, 2017
Brussels.- The European Commission (EC) published a list of 185 airlines that cannot operate in Europe, because they do not meet international safety standards.
The EC said that among the airlines are 174 companies certified in 16 states, due to a lack of supervision on safety by those countries' aviation authorities.
In addition, seven other airlines are banned as individual cases in their countries and because there is concern about the safety of their operations and the state of their fleets.
The list includes Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Iraqi Airways (Iraq) and Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname), Med-View Airlines (Nigeria), Mustique Airways (Grenadines), Air Urga (Ukraine) and Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe).
Six other companies face operational restrictions and will have to use certain kinds of airplanes to fly in the European Union.
