Artificial Shrimp Raising in Las Tunas
Monday, May 29, 2017

Havana.- The Cuban eastern province of Las Tunas joined the territories where facilities have been built to promote artificial shrimp raising.

The provinces of Sancti Spíritus, Pinar del Río, Granma and Holguín are among the top shrimp producers for the international market.

In the case of Las Tunas, the company San Ros is in charge of that economic activity, and supplied more than 33 tons of shrimps that were exported to Europe in the first four-months of this year.

The firm operates a rearing area where the larvae are taken care of for 12 days before they are transferred to the fattening tanks.

At present, 1.8 ton of food is used to obtain one ton of shrimps, 480 tons of which are expected to be produced in 2017.
