Environment and Tourism in Jardines del Rey
Monday, June 19, 2017

Havana.- Cayo Coco, which belongs to the tourist destination known as Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens), will carry out an environmental project to improve the flow of water into a coastal lagoon.

According to experts, the project will be sponsored by the Autonomous University of Mexico and the Sea Sciences Institute of that prestigious educational center.

The REALCO project consists of a canal to take water into the lagoon and lock gates to control the flow of water in case of extreme events or maintenance works.

As a complement, a bridge and a crosswalk will be built for the staff working in one of the nearby hotels, the lighting system will be installed and native vegetation will be planted.

As part of the environmental strategy, sand was poured to recover more than six kilometers of beaches in 2016.
