Artificial Fish Raising Grows in Eastern Cuba
Monday, June 26, 2017

Havana.- The company PESCASAN, based in eastern Santiago de Cuba province, has increased fish production to meet the demand from the domestic market.

According to experts, fries are being raised to counteract the adverse effects of the drought and the reduction in water volumes in the region's reservoirs.

Moreover, local dams and micro-dams must be used effectively because intensive fish raising guarantees an increase in production of tench, catfish and tilapia.

In that regard, PESCASAN uses 49 micro-dams, 17 dams and other reservoirs in Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo, thus relieving the pressure on marine fishing resources.

According to international statistics, aquiculture has developed to become one of the fastest-growing sectors and in Cuba's case, the potential exists to meet the predicted increase in demand.
