Environmental Investments Gain Ground in Cuba
Monday, June 26, 2017

Havana.- Cuban authorities are promoting investments to protect the environment in order to guarantee the conditions necessary to develop the country.

In that regard, it is worth mentioning that about 800 million pesos were invested from 2011 to 2015 in 11 hydrographic basins of national interest.

The annual average investments increased to 160 million pesos, accounting for 32.4 percent of the total investments allocated to environmental protection.

Furthermore, 85 percent of the total was used to manage waters, including the sewer systems, waste treatment and equipment to control the quality of water and its contamination.

During that period, more than 94,500 hectares of agricultural land benefited from the construction of polygons to build capacity to counter the negative effects of climate change.
