Nature Tourism in Cienaga de Zapata
Monday, July 17, 2017

Havana.- Cienaga de Zapata (Zapata Swamp), in the western Cuban province of Matanzas and considered the largest wetland in the Caribbean region, offers a wide range of attractions for nature enthusiasts.

According to experts, the region attracts tourists looking for such options as diving, trekking, bird watching and sports fishing.

In that regard, alternatives such as trout fishing and crocodile watching in their natural habitat are tourist products that are in the phase of design.

Therefore, experts are weighing the possibility of incorporating a modality of adventure tourism that will allow vacationers to watch and photograph the crocodiles, in addition to seeing how they are captured.

It should be said that the Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer) is a protected species native to Cuba whose main habitat is precisely the Zapata Swamp.
