Apicultural Production Gains Ground in Western Cuba
Monday, July 24, 2017

Havana.- Cuba's westernmost province, Pinar del Rio, produced 160 tons of bee honey in the first semester of 2017.

That volume accounts for an increase of 30 tons compared to the same period last year, as a result of the recovery of the honey-producing flora.

In that regard, representatives of the agricultural sector noted that it is possible to produce 500 tons of bee honey, six tons of wax and 400 kilograms of propolis this year.

In order to achieve that goal, producers are using beehives with two queen bees and excluding grids to increase the population of the colonies.

This year, Pinar del Rio will also produce 100 tons of ecological honey, which is highly demanded in the international market, due to its nutritional values.
