Havana.- The Sauto Theater, in the western Cuban province of Matanzas, holds several exponents of high cultural values, due to which it was designated as a National Monument.
Among those elements is the so-called Mural of the Muses, which is a neoclassic artwork with characteristic elements like painting and mural decoration.
The oil fresco, which is 15 by 20 meters, shows mythological images of the Greek muses on eight large cartouches that make up a large mural.
Due to its historic and artistic values, the artwork was included in the inventory of Cuba's mural heritage.
The mural was restored by Angel Bello, Rafael Ruiz, Victoria Navarro and José Zaldívar, who are restorers from the National Culture Council.
