Millions-Worth Mining Project in Pinar del Río
Monday, August 7, 2017

Havana.- The Castellanos Polymetallic Project, in Cuba's westernmost province, Pinar del Río, is the most important investment in the mining sector in the Caribbean island.

Conceived at a cost of more than 250 million dollars, the project aims to obtain more than 50,000 tons of concentrated lead and 100,000 tons of zinc every year.

The project is being carried out by Empresa Minera del Caribe (Emincar S.A.), which will also evaluate the fields.

According to the schedule, the project began after the inauguration of the primary grinding plant on July 1 and it will start producing in October.

As an example, experts noted that in the last three months of 2017, the plant will produce 10,000 tons of concentrated zing and 4,000 tons of lead.
