Impact of Cuba's Cooperation Program Acknowledged

Havana.- Cuba's program to provide medical care to the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident allowed following up on 26,114 patients.

The project ran from 1990 to 2011 and led to developing a rehabilitation program in an appropriate environment.

The medical complex, located in Villa Tarará, consisted of two hospital, a dental clinic, a fleet of ambulances, a food-processing center, a theater, schools and parks.

In addition, between 1998 and 2011, a brigade of Cuban physicians worked in the city of Evpatoria, where they attended to 6,000 patients every year.

Most of the people treated were 10-14 years of age and accounted for 57 percent of 12,480 Ukrainian patients.
